All Texas Team 2010 Coach of the Year

Hank Carter – Lake Travis

When Carter was promoted to the head coaching position after previous head coach Chad Morris took the offensive coordinator position at Tulsa, not much was expected of him; only that he take a program that had won three consecutive state championships to another title, as anything less at Lake Travis would be considered less then desirable. Despite losing two regular season games, not winning district for the first time since
2003 and playing through injuries to QB Michael Brewer and wide receiver Conner Floyd, the mission was accomplished and Lake Travis joined Celina and Sealy as the only Texas schools to win four consecutive state championships. The Cavaliers have also won 24 consecutive playoff games, which is second all-time behind Celina’s 25.

Honorable Mention

Tony Heath – Pearland

Heath led the Oilers to their first state title in school history, beating Euless Trinity 28-24 in the final and finishing 16-0 to win the Class 5A Division I State Championship. 5A Division I was loaded with several of the state’s top teams, and the Oilers proved their worthiness as they knocked off both Trinity and Katy, who were ranked 1-2 in class 5A all season.

Scott Surratt – Carthage

Surratt led Carthage to their third consecutive Class 3A title as they defeated Coldspring-Oakhurst 47-22. The Bulldogs fought through early season injuries which contributed to their two losses to pull off the state title trifecta.
